An Ode to the winter boot...

Updated: Oct 23, 2022

Now that we are well into spring, I would like to take a moment and say goodbye to my winter wardrobe including my most versatile and comfy boots. This has been the first winter in a few years that I spent back east and my tolerance for cold has completely dissolved since I moved to LA. Even so, I’ve forgotten the best part of winters on the east coast, the snow! Winter can be cold and unbearable but the first snow is always so beautiful and relaxing.

When it first snows, I turn into Lorelai Gilmore, I love watching the first set of snowflakes hit the ground, looking around at all the trees and ground get covered in a coat of white snow. The best part is the first day of walking around in a long coat, beanie & great boots on the fresh, untouched snow, the smell of the fresh snow & that slight change of cold breeze that hits your nose.

My dog is a big fan as well,

he likes to run out,

stick his nose in the fresh snow,

then jump around & roll around,

and make unproportionate snow angels.

Since I grew up on the east coast and spent many winters filled with snow and going skiing, I’ve learned that it's important to have the best boots and a variety to really survive the winters on the east. It’s not so much that brands are important, although I would say I do have my favorites, but it's always best to be prepared and have the appropriate boots for any occasion.

My favorites and go to boots have always been Timberlands and Ugg boots. Timberlands are my go to for icy conditions, trekking through the snow whether on a ski trip or just walking around the city.

As for my indoor, après-ski boots for light walking with some snow or just to wear on chilly days to run errands, the Ugg boot is perfect. Uggs are not designed to be worn in extreme snow conditions but are great for cold weather, for lounging, traveling, and funnily enough somewhat perfect for LA winters on mornings that hit 40 degrees with no rain or snow just chill temps!

Timberland boots really became popular as pop stars and rappers started incorporating them into their street style whether even in winter or not, the brand became a pop culture staple. J.Lo is notorious for wearing Timberland boots whether hopping on a jet or walking around New York in the winter, to even wearing them out in LA with a show stopping Coach fur coat, to even featuring them in music videos. & as for the infamous ugly Ugg boots, these were considered cheugy for a while but started to make a comeback as more celebrities started wearing Uggs during the pandemic. Uggs are making a comeback as they come out with brighter & vibrant colors, a range of styles from slides to sneakers and platforms, and eye-catching designs and prints.

So as I start to put my boots away as spring is right around the corner, I have to wonder what's next for Timberland & Uggs this year as they incorporate new styles to stay ahead of the game & which brands will come out with competing boots & winter styles next fall & winter.
